Hi guys Bought a Sig 229 tonight. It felt nice in my hand and had a great trigger. How do they hold up? What is a good round for these guns? I kind of like the way 165gr Golden Saber look. Should I use something else. What is a good holster for this gun? IWB preferbly or OWB. Also how do they shoot? Are they acurate? How is the recoil? I'll take it to the range next week. Thanks for any help,45automan

Greetings 45automan; I hope you enjoy your new purchase!!! :) I got rid of my P229, due
to the short grip, moderate recoil, and the
fact that I could not hit the broad side of
a barn at 25ft. with the .40 caliber!!! :(
As a matter of fact, it's the only Sig that
I don't like!!! :p Give me a P220A, P226, or
a P228. I know you are going to say that the
grip of the 228 and the 229 is the same; but
that extra few ounce's of the 229 negate it's
good qualities. :D If I want a .40 caliber, I will resort to my Glock 27!!! :)

Congratulations! You made a fine choice and bought when of the best .40 pistols on the market today. SIG Sauers are known for their reliability, accuracy and mild recoil. It'll chew right through any ammo you get for it.

I like Lou Alessi's leather more than any other. His attention to detail is incredible. He finished all holsters by hands. Incredibly his prices are just a little more than mass productions holsters. Check them out www.rfholsters.com/rfholsters/dept.asp?dept%5Fid=10 The Talon Plus and CQC are among the best for carry.

My 229 is not my favorite gun, but it's excellent anyway. It's a little heavier than it's counterparts, as well as a little bigger. Sweet trigger, though. I also happen to like the texture of the stock grips.

My biggest complaint is the finish. I noticed a few spots where the finish seems to have chipped off. I don't feel bad tossing my Glock or other guns around, but the sig seems to be babied a little more.

Excellent choice. The gun is practically flawless. I have two. Sit back and enjoy the fact that you have one of the best guns made--no excuses made.

Earlier this year I was on a joint SEAL/DELTA/IRAQI-REPUBLICANGUARD Super secret raid on a Caribbean nuclear weapons facility located in Detroit. We employed the mighty P229 in .357SIG to penetrate the body armor worn by the Head Scientist designing the weapons of mass destruction!

He wore a special zinc-boron plated Teflon nickel hydride armor developed to stop the new line of subcompact plasma phasers. It was a rough mission but we pulled it out!

Keep an eye on the recoil spring. We are noticing that the 229's have a tendency to deform the recoil spring and eventually break them. If you start having a lot of failures to feed, that might be the problem. That's the first sign that we are noticing. Sig sent us steel guide rods to replace the original plastic ones, but I've now seen a couple of springs kink even with the steel rods. OTOH, some of the 229's have had no problem with this at all.
