Bought a Dan Wesson 22-V

In no small part to the advice given here, I made my first spur-of-the-moment gun purchase. It also happens to be my first revolver purchase.

I bought a used bright blue Dan Wesson 22-V .22LR revolver. I had just walked into Davi's to talk about trading in my USP in on a 1911 when I saw the revolver in their consignment case in the back. Asking was $450, and after a quick look and finding that it was indeed a complete kit I offered $400. I realize that's still high for what it should have cost but it's only money and in the last year plus I've only seen one in person at a gun show and it wasn't a kit. I've been looking too. I can't deal shop for one of these forever & it's just money. :-)

Anyhow, it locks up tight, finish is very good with only one small scratch. Kit included a second grip, barrel change tool, gap tool, original brown suitcase. Sights are adjustable with 2.5", 4", 6", 8" barrels included. Unfortunetly, no manual and I don't see a date for it's vintage. S/N is 19xx9 (xx to obscure full sn) I imagine I can order a manual from Dan Wesson, hints appreciated on how to get one. Any idea on when it was made?

Thanks for the advice in other threads, I'll be off to the range with it tomorrow. I'll try to get some photos posted here soon. I need to sit down and take photos of the whole collection.

Sounds nice. I bought one just like it a few years back to go with my 722 DW. You will find them very accurate, easy to shoot and a lot of fun at the range. I cannot offer many tips other then to say shoot it a lot. I do not commonly swap my barrels during cleaning. I find the 8" barrel a little heavy for shooting and spend most of my time with the 6" ones.

DW/CZ has parts and such, just call them up in Norwich with your wish list in hand.

Let us know how it does.

Welcome to the DW fan club.

It will no doubt lead to a Model 15 and or Model 44 before too long.
Only suggestion I can offer is to watch for lead and powder crap build up around the forcing cone and cylinder face. On my Model 22 I had to up the cylinder gap .002 to keep it from dragging after an extended period of shooting.
As to price, considering you got the entire Pistol Pack, $400 isn't unreasonable.
Take Care

I like it; but not entirely without some 'character'

I sent a request to CZ for the manual, hopefully I'll hear something back this week.

Had it on the range today, really enjoyed the DA revolver shooting. Sights seem a bit low of impact but I may still be adjusting to the sight picture.

Very accurate to shoot, several big hole group offhand at 7-8 yards. Trigger is a little heavy but I believe i could switch mainsprings to lighten it. ?

The cylinder is a little tight to swing out, not sure why yet - not hard but not as easy as it should be. After about 100 or 130 rounds the trigger would not reset every time, sometimes needed a little wiggle to reset. Concerning, but after a quick cleaning it works fine.

I'll tear it down and try one of the shorter barrels once the manual gets here.

I think you did OK on the price, pistol packs seem to bring good money. Is it a Monson, MA produced gun? The Palmer made guns are not worth quite as much.

Look on the backside on the trigger up by the frame. Is there a trigger overtravel stop screw? If so, it might be adjusted out just a hair too far and causing the action to bind.

If you can't get a manual from CZ, I can copy mine and get it to you somehow. Love the Dans that I have, all bought in the early 80's and going strong.

Monsoon & overtravel screw is out.

It is stamped Monsoon, Mass which another Dan Wesson fan pointed out to me at the range Sunday.

The overtravel screw is indeed present, although the problem doesn't present its self now that the gun is clean. I'll try adjusting after it occurs again, although it's not entirely clear to me as to how the screw is adjusted.

No word back yet on my manual request sent to CZ this weekend.

I only managed to snap some awful photos tonight, I really need to read up on taking good gun photos and get some daylight hours to try it.

well it's a small world - I was going to post a general " need info" re: the DW 22 I bought tonite (at a very fair price:) ). I had seen it listed on a clubs web site months ago; it was still listed last week . I e-mailed the guy; he replied "still have it - call" . I called tonite ,and drove over. it took me about 2 seconds to decide to buy it. 4" barrel (heavy -full shroud-underlug the whole way out). he bought it used in 86 , and decided to make some room in the safe. He said I was only person that called- I couldn't believe it .
So- is it possible to get different barrels? is it worth it ? the 4' felt really nice. I put it in the safe (time for bed); I'll check where made and ask some more q's tomorrow... Thanks.
