Bought a CZ 40 today.

I went to a local gunstore today to actually check out their used revolvers (I'm on the lookout for a nice .38 and a nice L-frame .357). They didn't really have any used revolvers to speak of but the CZ case kept calling my name.

I went to the case hoping for a CZ 75 PCR but unfortunately they are out right now (he, the owner, says he talked to CZ and he expects to keep getting them for some time). I looked at a CZ 75 Compact in nickel, a CZ 100 in 9mm and a CZ 40.

The Compact just didn't quite do it for me. Probably would have been perfect if I didn't know about the PCR but this was noticably heavier and was priced about the same.

The 100 was actually the direction I was leaning. I live in MD so I don't really need a CCW pistol but this has just been strongly calling my name recently. I have a thing right now for smaller guns. This gun is compact, light, a CZ (so it should be a great gun), and the DAO trigger isn't that bad. Also, I don't have a polymer gun yet so it would be a bit different from anything else I have.

I also really liked the 40. This is another gun that has been calling my name for a while. It is a lot like my CZ 75 (9mm) that I love plus it has an alloy frame (I think, the CZUSA site is down so I can't double check) so it is lighter weight, it is a nice compact gun for a full sized pistol, it has rubber grips that should be very comfortable, it has a similar grip angle to my 1911 (neutral: I love the feel of my 1911 but I really love the feel of my CZ 75) and it has the hard hitting .40 chambering. This should be a great gun for CCW when I leave MD. This is also going to be my first .40. With all that I was leaning towards the 100 (it is just more different than anything else I have) until the owner told me that his distributor has raised prices by more than $40 and he only had 3 of the CZ 40s left that he got in at the old price. I bought it now since I don't see paying that much more later when I can get such a bargain now.

I can't wait to shoot it when I pick it up in 3 weeks (@&*$@ MD one a month law:mad: ). I'll be sure to give you all a report.

I also just got a new CZ-40 on Saturday. It's a nice pistol, you should like it.

I got to take it out and compare it to my CZ-75 on Monday. It's my first .40 also, so I was a bit surprised that it wasn't the big cannon everyone makes it out to be. It was stouter than the 9mm +P, but not by much. I actually shot it better than the '75!

I'm very pleased with mine. It's a joy to shoot.

Glad you like it...the CZ 40 is a fun gun. Its the only CZ that people either love it or they dont...its the grip. Alot of 1911 guys love it alot and some like it because its just different.
The 40 is a fairly stout round and the weight of the CZ can make it kick pretty good but its a larger gun to help compensate a little.
I believe there is a PCR in my future.....hopefully soon.
Shoot well

Chaim,
The CZ 40 does have an alloy frame. The Cz Usa website is up today. Looks like a nice gun. I may have to have one. I don't have any 1911 style guns at the moment.

RUSS: The CZ-40B isn't really a 1911-style gun. It just has a straight grip like the 1911 series. Everything else about the gun is pure CZ. (The internals almost mirror exactly other CZs, and some parts are interchangeable.)

For folks who like the 1911 grip angle, its a good, inexpensive option.
