Bought a Combat Masterpiece

Is there a model # in the crane area of the frame? Or a SN#?
If no M-15 there, it should be 1957 or before.

Serial number is K877923. It says 15-3 when you open the cylinder on the frame.she has lots of holster wear but it's nice and tight and the action is smooth

I posted in the SN thread for you as well
A15-3 is 1967-1968
I happen to have a 1955 CMP

No prob
Here's mine, she's a beater but a shooter

A classic. You show refined taste in acquiring this fine revolver, my friend.

I have a 15-3 shipped to the campus police of a university in LA. Nickel was popular with Southern cops. I fitted the polished stag stocks for added panache.

Best way is to use photobucket, then copy the link address to your post and paste it

And Saxon....I miss drooling over your dang pictures!

The Model 15 is my favorite Smith & Wesson revolver I believe. I've got two now, a -2 and a -3.

Here's the -3. A well worn example, but it shoots like new.

My favorite revolver

Model 15 (no dash) from 1957-1958? A pleasure to shoot with mid range loads and hard cast bullets. By far my favorite revolver because of balance, trigger, light recoil, and consistent accuracy.

Awesome Model 15 Pig! Are those Stag grips factory?

I've been pining for a USAF marked Model 15 for as long as I can remember. I've got a box of the M41 130 grain ball for it, just need the gun now!

The S&W Model 15 (if I recall correctly) was the first "real" handgun I ever had the opportunity to shoot (aside from the B-B pistol I had as a kid). This was in the early 70's when I was in the Air Force, and was "required" to qualify with "small arms" (please don't throw me in that briar patch). I loved it, and it really got me hooked on handgun shooting. I've always wanted one of these for myself since then, and happened to find a nice one at a gun show a year or two ago. Couldn't resist it.

I have a weakness for Smiths. No matter how many of a particular model I have, if I find a deal on one I will usually buy it. I had been looking in vain for a CM for a few years and then in the space of a coupe of months I found three of them.

Top to bottom:
15-3, appears unfired since it left the factory
'54 Combat Masterpiece
15-2, the worst cosmetic condition of any gun I own, but shoots like a dream

I think the Model 15 is the nicest of all the Smith revolvers.

I've mentioned this on other forums but Jeff Cooper used to have conniptions, perhaps amused disdain, that a .38 is called the Combat Masterpiece. :D
