Bought a Beretta Jetfire

Well thanks to some of your advice, and my crazy desire for a mouse gun, I bought a used Beretta 950BS Jetfire in .25acp in excellent + condition. Just looking for any thoughts on this gun from people who own one, ammo choices, what to avoid, holster options (ya I know, stick it in my pocket), etc. I am trying to decide if I am better off with ball ammo for penetration or something like an XTP hp or Magsafe. Thanks.

Congrats! There are quite a few Jetfire fans on this board, and I'm sure they'll all chime in soon.

I'm on my second Jetfire, and Inox model. They're very dependable, stylish and small pocket pistols. One thing that I love about them is their reliability...mine has never failed in any way. Also, they are pleasant to shoot for a mousegun, since you can actually grab the gun properly. The tip-up barrel is an added bonus feature which comes in handy.

I carry mine in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster or a DeSantis wallet holster. It feeds fine with Speer Gold Dots, but I load it with Federal ball ammo most of the time. Expansion won't make a huge difference in that small round.

I have a stanless steel Jetfire...

It's always been reliable. However, I too have some questions. Last night, I cleaned it and did a function check. Two things happened. The first was that the spring on either side of the frame could slip forward and out of place. I had to push them back with my finger. Is this normal? Also when I did not use the "tip-up" feature of the barrel, but just racked the slide to insert a round into the chamber and then ejected it, the round was pretty well scratched up with the case being chipped right at the bottom of the projectile. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks,
KR

Looks like I was worried for nothing.

I just got home from the range where I tested every type of .25ACP I had in the safe, including Magsafe. My little Jetfire didn't malfunction even once. I thought that I might have trouble with the Hornady XTP hollow points. I shot up a whole box just to make sure. Hollow points or full metal jackets are no problem for the Jetfire.
I know it's only a .25 caliber. I've got lots of larger caliber pistols. But now I feel sure my Jetfire will go BANG every time I pull the trigger. I had a Police Officer tell me that Magsafes in his Jetfire made a "more effective" wound than .32ACP Silvertips. I have reason to believe him.
So mlk 18...ENJOY!

Holy moly!

I was reading that the Magsafe .25 +P Defenders outperform both .32 JHP's and .380 JHP's. Their alleged to fly at 1,750 FPS with 150 FPE (and penetration in the 8-13" range). And that was fired from a Beretta tip-up .25acp. Anyone have experience with Magsafe's in Berettas?

mlk 18...

On the side of the Magsafe package there is a recommended test where they say to tape a packaged corned beef brisket to a water filled milk jug. (The meat being represented as human tissue.) I did this test (much to the chagrin of my wife). The wound the .25ACP magsafe was impressive indeed. Plus, it made a big hole in both sides of the milk jug!
A lot of guys don't believe in Magsafes.
I like them, even in my Glock 27.

P.S. I used a Jetfire for the test.

Jetfire

MLK18, resist the urge to carry your Beretta loose in pocket. Two reasons; 1. lint, change, etc. can end up in the darndest places
2. A good pocket holster will help conceal the gun and keep it in the same position all the time(important if you ever need to draw it.):D The little Berettas are great guns.
