Boston U rejects ban on gun investment

They have a history of putting money ahead of "social responsibility." They shut down the School of Nursing at a time when there was a nationwide shortage of nurses -- because it tended not to produce rich alumni. They spent the money on the business school instead.

In a report published Monday on the BU Today website, Knox said the trustees had “a big sprawling discussion that reflected a full spectrum of opinions.”
Somehow, I doubt it was that sprawling. Vanya's correct in that money talks. This has become even more dire as universities saw funding drop off during the recession. Many universities have cut back on who gets tenure, and most Ph.D's I know have been demoted to part-time adjunct professors.

Boston U Rejects Ban on Gun Investment

I noticed a couple of comments suggesting the social(pc) correct thing to would be to ban investment in the Gun Industry.
We have got to start ignoring or putting these Folks in their place, maybe Britain.
The socially acceptable thing to do is to insure all Americans enjoy the Rights and freedoms that were fought for around Boston.
It is dark irony that the birth place of our freedom is now a socialist encampment where citizens are denied their Rights.
Everyone has the right and duty to defend themselves, their families, and neighbors and Country.
This is the reason for our Second Amendment. I'm too old now to try to fend off armed perps whteher firearms or baseball bats without a weapon.
The Residents of Mass have my sympathy and at the same time my contempt for not standing up for their and everyone else's Right to bear arms.

Can't recall the last time I was proud of my alma mater. Still not going to send them any money though, they have lots more than me!

That is surprising for BU! It is less likely that this is a show of support for the 2nd Amendment than it is a statement to snotty kids to stay out of the College's financial business. In other words "Pay your tuition; shut up and leave quickly after you get your degree - we'll listen to your financial advice when you are a platinum level contributing alumni."
