I use my boresnakes with no solvent or lube. All I want them to do is remove dirt and loose fouling between thorough cleanings with a rod and brush. They do an excellent job of removing everything I can see in the bore. I used to put solvent and oil on them, but I got tired of being sprayed with Hoppes every time.
I use Shooter's Choice solvent for a quick clean. A boresnake does not replace a good cleaning brush/rod/patch arrangement.
Once dirty, using Dawn (NO subs!) in a small bucket with HOT water will usually get it clean in short order.
I spray a little breakfree CLP on them before running them through.
Even if it is just a quick fix until I can clean it later or shoot it in a few weeks, I want the bore oiled for that period of storage.
