Today here in the great state of MT, it was just to windy for gophers so me and a friend decided against just going home and went up to some rims to look for some rabbits but we got this guy instead. Anyone else here havin any luck so far this Spring, feel free to post pics

Yeah that is pry one of the smaller ones i have seen/shot. This weekend i am gonna go out agian and try some new loads on them (.223, 24.7 grains of X-Terminator powder, Wolf small rifle mag primers, toped with a 60 grain V-max bullet) Oooohhh i can smell the carnage already

Ummmm what exactly is that? A golfer.... er, I mean a gopher?

I mean, what is the thing in the hat with the rifle that the little furry thing is holding up?

I dont get many 'tropheys' when I hunt rabbits with my 44 mag marlin they just end up a red furry stripe on the ground

I am not sure what that thing in the hat is, but it is being held up by a marmot.

Also known as Rock Chuck, Wood Chuck, Yellow Bellied Marmot, Ground Hog, Whistle Pig. These are all subspecies or nick names of the Marmot.

The name whistle pig comes from its alarm call to its buddies when danger is around.

In Northern Idaho, hell anywhere for that matter, they are considered targets. They can do a lot of damage to cultivated fields so farmers are usually happy to let you shoot them. A friend of mine in Alberta lost about 4 acres of rapeseed (think canola) plants to them last year.

A 220 Swift or 22-250 makes a very round for shooting these things.

what kind of rifle are you using? looks lieka FN SCAR but i oculd be way off?

Looks like a typical AR to me. Flip up sights, skeltonized butt stock, looks like an A2 flash hider, rails and rail covers. But the give away is the forward assist on the receiver under his arm.
