Bore snake for rifle OK for handgun?

I picked up a Hoppes Bore Snake rifle cleaner for .35, .357, .358 and .375 calibers, thinking that it would also be good for my .380, 9mm and .357/.38 handguns. Is there anything different about the construction of the rifle bore snake that would hurt or be less effective on a handgun barrel or revolver cylinder?

Good one Chesster.

Thanks for confirming what I hoped the case would be. I had some fun explaining the bore snake concept to my wife. ;) It even resembles a rattlesnake a little, therefore she doesn't like it. :D

Space..., and now you can explain to your wife how you can "save money" on your hobby/passion/obsession. Wait and use it when she has spent $300 at Dillards and "saved" $XXX on clothes/shoes. :D

Rifle works just fine. I have five bore snakes all in rifle length so that I can use them on pistol and rifle.

Why would the extra length of a rifle bore snake wear out a pistol barrel? I have several bore snakes, some of pistol and some of rifle length. The difference between the two is that there is a longer section of braided cotton on the rifle vs. the pistol bore snake. That stuff isn't going to wear anything out, no matter how many times you pass it through the barrel. Both the rifle and pistol bore snakes have bronze bristles embedded in the first few inches, but so what? The bronze in those bristles is softer than the steel of the gun barrels, so even if there are a few more bronze bristles in the rifle version as opposed to the pistol, there's no chance that they'll wear out the gun.

I happily use rifle length bore snakes in my pistols. Never had a problem, and I doubt that I ever will.

WRONG WRONG WRONG

The extra length of a rifle bore snake will wear out a short pistol barrell right quick.

That's what I was thinking. If the rifle bore snake was designed for a 24" barrel, and you pull it through a 4" barrel, it will clean it 6 times too much.

No way a rifle boresnake will do anything other than speed up your cleaning time when used on a pistol. I go to the range and fire 8 weapons , three rifles and five pistols.Having a boresnake cuts cleaning time in half.End of story!

A sign of one who agrees with anything
That i'm sure was ment as a joke
Least I hope so
