bore mop ?

I never really use them, but if I did it would only be for a final coat of oil on a really clean barrel, and even then I think they'd be best for shotguns

Patches do all the cleaning work, and a bore mop is really not much more than a high priced patch that you don't want to throw away

I use them for applying bore cleaning solvents like hoppes no. 9 to the bore. Just easier to swab the bore with a mop then after it sits for a few minutes I patch it out.

After I'm done I wash the mop with water and dish detergent and let it sit and dry.

After I clean the bore, I run an oiled patch through it. Then I let the barrel sit (Breakfree CLP will penetrate somewhat into bore surface) while I clean the barrel's outside surface, slide and frame. After oiling the lube points, I run a mop once through the barrel, which removes excess oil but leaves an extremely thin protective film. Don't like firing a round through an oiled barrel. Yes, you can run a dry patch through the barrel's bore with a jag instead.
