Border Patrol going to Sig P226 & 125gr Gold Dot?

long shot

New member
I was over at the sigforum, & a member who replied to a thread about the best 357 sig def. loads, said that he/she read an article(did not say which ragazine)in which, after extensive testing, the Border Patrol will be going to the P226 & 125gr GD.

I thought they were happy w/ the 155gr .40, it was said to be giving them the same level of performance that they experienced w/ their 357mags in gunfights.

Anyone else read this article, or have any info to substantiate this?

Best,
long shot!

i've never heard this. to the best of my knowledge the Border Patrol is using Beretta 96D Brigadiers. they're off duty or plain clothes gun is the HK USP Compact. they use 155gr Remington JHPs i believe.

The last I head is that the INS, nationally, were all going to H&K Compact 40s, using 155 or 165 Remington Goldern Sabers.

nebob, do you mean for off duty and plain clothes work or as their official sidearm?

also i'm not positive on this one but i thought i remember hearing that they use standard Remington JHPs and not Golden Sabers.

I have a lifelong friend that's in the Border Patrol. Here's the gouge at the line level:
All line agents will be issued the standard Beretta. The Border Patrol/INS has authorized issue of the HK USP Compact DAO variant in .40S&W for plainsclothes agents. Line agents can use that USP version if they purchase it with their own funds and qualify with it. The SIG P229 is also authorized, if you can get it converted to DAO and qualify, at your own expense. If I remember correctly, there are only 3 pistols the BP are authorized to carry.

My buddy, after shooting my P226, was hot to carry a SIG, but the SIG-authorized gunsmith that does all of their DAO conversions never returned his calls.

Destructo6,

Tell your friend all he has to do is remove the decock lever and bearing and grind off the S/A sear notch on the hammer. That's all the factory does to the gun. I know, I bought one that was DAO and converted it back to DA/SA. If he wants, I'll sell him my DAO hammer.
