Boot carry?

Just wondering if I'm crazy or not.

I have a Jeminez JA380, roughly the same size as a Ruger LCP maybe a tad more bulk, and am thinking about trying to boot carry it on occasion. Ankle holster doesn't fit in a western style boot. But the gun does rest pretty nice by itself in the boot. It's not going to rotate or move on me, with jeans over the top of my boot nothing can get in to mess with it. It does have a manual safety. I've been trying it around the house unloaded and haven't had an issue with the safety coming off. To me it seems the boot itself makes a pretty nice holster. Where the doubt comes into play is that wandering from the pc to the fridge to the couch in circles is very different than a day around town and such. Anyone have experience/success doing this.

This isn't my go-to gun, it's kind of a backup idea when I want a little deeper concealment such as a waistband/purse check event like a concert. No gun signs have no legal bearing in Iowa so there's nothing illegal about carrying in those places, you just have to leave if asked to otherwise face a trespassing charge(same as being asked to leave for any other reason). Normally I carry a government size A2 1911 IWB with a Galco King Tuk hybrid holster. This works very well for me the majority of the time. I just want another option when waistband and the wife's purse are out.

TIA

I wear Wellington boots everyday of the work week and experimented a little with boot carry. I have to say its not for me. If one wants to carry in that fashion I would still recommend a holster clipped on the inside top edge of the boot instead of the gun loose. The gun will not stay in the same position as you walk and will probably sink farther into the boot. Not to mention rubbing against your leg and ankle. 2nd reason (probably should be 1st) the holster will also cover the trigger. The holster will also keep the gun easier to access instead of having to dig deep in your boot when time is of the essence. Just my .02......

With the exception of the current Phoenix Arms production from the "ring of Fire" companies, they were all striker fired without a firing pin block. So, as has been stated, they are best carried with an empty chamber. (In my humble opinion)

Unholstered boot carry seems like it would take some getting used to.

I'd be comfortable with the JA380 cocked and locked. The safety when chambered does 2 things 1) it prevents trigger travel and 2) it physically blocks the sear essentially creating a striker stop.

I did order another cheap holster to try through cabelas, item number IK-290481. The ankle holster didn't work. The ankle holster wants to ride low and that deep in the boot there's not enough room, too much bulk. It was pulling my boot off. I haven't gone very far doing the holsterless boot carry but I really don't see how anything can get into the trigger area. From outside there's a layer of denim and a layer of leather from the boot and inside there's just my sock. I would like it to sit about 1/2" higher than where gravity wants it to ride. If the holster makes it stick a ways out of my boot that's no good to have to hike up the pants leg that far. We'll have to see how it goes. I might make a custom boot holster for it to get it to ride where I want. My wife works with webbing for ratchet straps and can get pieces of scrap for free :D

I tried carrying a wallet in my Wellington-style boot once. Even the soft leather became irritating after a while. It also shifted around, but that is not a problem where quick draw of the wallet was not at issue. However, falling out was always a (if remote) a real possibility.

I also find that when in dusty, gravelly or brushy areas, my jeans to not always keep all debris out of my boots.

I would not think it a complete stretch of reasonableness to install a zipper in my boot (along the vertical boot-top seam) to allow a completely enclosed pocket. A pull up (if you install the zipper in that direction) on the zipper could expose the gun at the same time as it pulls up your trouser leg. Downward opening might seem more natural, but I think upward opening would be more practical for presentation purposes.

Just my two cents worth.

Lost Sheep

Now that's an interesting idea lost sheep. I do not have the tools to do much with leather. It is a very tough material to try to stitch.

My thoughts are when I have to do this if it's a tad awkward I'm okay with that. It's not my first choice of carry but it's better than nothing going into a "gun free" target rich environment. The one thing about a target rich environment is that it is statistically unlikely to be the first target. A defensive draw would come from cover/concealment.

I'm open to other ideas as well. I need something that doesn't cause a stir when they check waistbands and purses. Nothing illegal about it but they can refuse service to anyone for any reason they see fit.

If you're going with boot carry, use caution when line dancing.
It might turn into the dancing version of a hockey puck.
You don't want to have to chase the thing all over the dance floor.

haha! no, we don't need to worry about that, I'm allergic to dancing....maybe it's everyone is allergic to my dancing....it causes nausea at any rate :D

It would be a low activity event, mainly just walking in and to seats and back out.

If I were to line dance I'd have the trusty 1911 IWB :D I've cut wood all day with it and around the farm all day I've never had an issue with it not staying home :D It's just too easy to spot and I don't want to have a good pair of tickets go unused over someone's unfounded fear of a firearm in the holster of a law abiding citizen.
