"Bomb/metal detector-zapper"

The article makes it sound like someone who was mistakenly suspected of carrying a bomb, etc. would "wake up stunned but unharmed."

Um, correct me if I am wrong, but if one is shocked unconscious or immobile by a stun gun of any kind, is there not the potential to be seriously or even fatally injured as one collapses to the ground?

Here is a test:

Stand up straight in any random location, be it a carpeted living room, a tiled Burger King, a concrete sidewalk, and all at once, go limp, and allow yourself to fall to the ground.

See if you don't hurt yourself in some way.

People who believe you can be stunned and then harmlessly float to the ground have watched too many friggin' stupid movies.

People do not fall gently to the ground when knocked out. They collapse violently. Sometimes they hit their head and DIE.

Not only that, but the shock itself can be harmful, even if the victim retains his senses. I've been an electrical engineer for many years, and as such I have had to periodically take first aid and electrical safety training. They always advise that you carefully watch someone who has experienced a serious shock, and better still, take him to the emergency room for an examination.

I'm with M&M; anyone who blasts me with such a device had better have one helluva lawyer.

I do believe I may have to do some travelling to some of the 'better' ranges in the country. You know, those right near airports that implement this thing, should they be stupid enough?

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...lawsuit.

Dang. I don't think I've ever been through a metal detector without setting it off. Does this mean I'm gonna get hit every time I work at the airport or courthouse?

I wonder if they still make those Miller beer sumo wrestler suits? At least I'll bounce when I hit the ground.
