Bolt replacement for M1 Carbine

Have a CMP M1 Carbine and a new Fulton Armory USGI replacement bolt assembly - right model for the carbine. Fits fine. I read somewhere that you should not replace bolts. Is this true?

Fit is only part of the story...

Does the headspace check OK? Does the bolt bear evenly on both lugs?

when replacing bolts.
SO, I recommend that you find the the 1953 USA /USAF combined Tech manual ans read it, regarding the headspace and barrel clearance.
Sometimes it a straight exchange other aren't.
