Bolt removed on Model 70 Win..The wrong way!

Ok I think I have a mess on my hands. The bolt was removed from my Model 70 Win with the safety in the fire position and it was not cocked. Needless to say it will not go back in. Any suggestions are appreciated!

OK, I'm not a smith but my advice would be to call Winchester customer service and seek their advice.

I am a little confused on how this could have happened. The Model 70 cocks on opening so I don't understand how you could remove the bolt without it being cocked. You can remove it without the safety being engaged but I don't see how you could get it out without it being cocked.

BTW, the model 70 manual is available online and it might provide some help.

Hold the bolt body and turn the bolt sleeve clockwise until the firing pin is held back by the bolt notch on the pins cocking piece, then put it back in the rifle. Close the bolt then dry fire it.
