bolt action rifle stock fitment question

I did a stock swap, putting really nice stock from a 1984 Ruger M77 onto a 1987 M77 action. Now the fitment was pretty snug. More so than usual. As the action screw tightened it made you think it was torqued but then if you squeezed the barrel it would crunch or slip down a little. did this twice before the screw really seated the action. So what say ye? Everything OK or does this need some work? I will say it is tighter than any other M77 I have run into. Thanks

Personally, i would open it up some.
My fear would be the tension on the stock may cause it to crack over time.
So i would rather open it up and bed the action.

"...it would crunch...screw really seated the action..." That should not be. Screws do not seat anything. It sounds like the stock isn't quite right for the '87 barreled action.
The original rifles the same chambering?
