Body Armor

I was reading a blurb in a newspaper about a Minnesota man..in Minneapolis I believe, that was arrested for wearing armor.
Is it illegal to wear a vest?

In California only LEOs, security etc can purchase and own body armor. This came through about two years ago I think. The politicians passed it saying all these criminals were wearing body armor. I've been and LEO for over 10 years and I still have not ran across a BG wearing armor. Kind of like I never ran across a BG with an AR-15 but you can't get that here either. The stuff is pretty uncomfortable, the only reason why I wear it is I'm convinced the minute I don't have it on I'll get shot by a .22 short and drop dead. That damn Murphy....

It depends on the State. Funny thing is, here in Socialist NJ, it is only illegal to wear body armor in the commission of a crime. Any law abiding citizen, er, comrade, may wear it to their hearts content. Many guns are banned, it sometimes takes months to get permission to buy a handgun, you can't defend yourself with hollow points, but you can wear body armor. Go Figure.

The case you refer to was where he was wearing body armor during the commission of a crime which was carrying a gun. Vests are 100% legal in Minnesota. Each family member here has one right down to the 8 year old.
