Extremely reliable, so long as you stay away from the ammo that can't be used with it. You need to look at the Boberg website for the list of approved ammo. If you use unapproved ammo, the bullet will be separated from the case during the feeding process. Not "may"....
will. This isn't dangerous (not a squib situation), but it is messy. Powder granules get all in the action and it takes some time to clean it out.
The one thing I will point out is that the ammo it doesn't like is typically range ammo; i.e. ammo you buy at the range. I don't remember the brand name that separated on me, but I did check and it was on the "unapproved" list. Cheap ammo isn't the problem - it will eat steel cased Wolf 9mm all day long without a hiccup. That's because the the bullet is sealed or crimped. Other cheap ammo is available, but you just need to be aware of what is on the approved list. The cheap range ammo I used (once) was unsealed and/or uncrimped - easy for the bullet to be pulled from the case. +p ammo is also no problem. Some folks have reported that they have used +p+ ammo in theirs once or twice with no problem, but that's not recommended.
I would CC my Boberg more, but its too nice to carry - so I end up carrying my much cheaper (and less reliable) Diamondback db9 (I know, call me prissy if you must). I would love to find another Boberg XR9-S that is ugly as sin and beat up for a decent price and I'd make that my EDC.
FWIW, I don't really need a 9mm smaller than the XR9-S, so I don't think the micro if they ever come out with it is going to be a must-have for me.
