"Bo-mar sights, Bar-sto barrel," decipher please?

The only semi-auto's that I have are .22's and I know nothing about nomenclature of larger ca. semi-auto's. I am interested in buying a 9mm that I have not seen. I have purchased another gun sight unseen from this person, who is in another state, with excellent results.

However, that was a .22, not too complicated or expensive. I have no idea how the following upgrades relate to the quality of this gun...

"Belgium Browning Custom High Cap Race Gun w/Bo-mar sights, Bar-sto barrel, custom trigger and triggergard w/Belgium high cap mags..."

What does 'Race' gun mean, what value/performance do the customizations add?

Can anyone help me decipher please?

I'll try. A race gun was one that was set up for gun games such as IPSC, Steel Plates and bowling pins. The Bomar sights are some of the best adjustible sights on the market, great sight pictures and built like a tank. Bar Sto makes custom barrels which tend to be very accurate and are highly thought of by most shooters. The Bomars are in the neighborhood of $100 and the Bar sto barrels are also pricey. Both are of excellent quality.

Hope this helps:)

Bo-mar sights are expensive aftermarket adjustable sights of very high quality. Bar-sto barrel is an aftermarket barrel of very high quality. Custom trigger and trigger guard means that he had some one butcher the trigger and trigger guard to his liking and it cost him way too much money. Race gun means it may be at the end of its useful life without an expensive major overhaul. Only buy that gun after it has been inspected by a competent gunsmith and given a clean bill of health.

Huh? Certainly possible, since I haven't seen the gun, but your conclusion does not follow. For example, my Colt Delta Elite has a custom trigger -- a Videcki installed by Dane Burns. Cost me $40 and wasn't "butchered." And some modified trigger guards look quite nice.

"Race gun means it may be at the end of its useful life without an expensive major overhaul."

Double huh? Race gun just means it was purpose-modified for competition and tells you nothing about the condition it is in, how many rounds were put through it, etc.

Nothing wrong with some healthy skepticism, but good gravy!

Usually the upgrades (except extra magazines) do not raise the price but in fact lower it over a stock weapon - except for a fellow enthusiast in the same discipline.

Big G got it.

Gun has been customized to an individual's taste and perceived needs. May or may not please another person.

Whew! Thanks for the opinions and information. Yep, that helps a lot.

Sam, I always pay attention to your two-cents...:)

Sounds like a hell of a gun. But as stated, I would have to see it first. If it was actually used by a serious action pistol competitor, he probably shot a whole lot of lead down that barrel. If he was trying to make IPSC Major with a 9mm those loads were also very hot. He probably wasn't but who knows. One other very important thing to ask when buying a custom gun like this is, who did the work ? Was this done by Cylinder & Slide (http://www.cylinder-slide.com/) or was this done on someone's kitchen table using a boy scout knife ?

I know you did not specifically ask for advice on buying the gun but it would be nice to know the price.

IPSC rules do not allow "major" with 9 by 19.

If he was anything like the "minor" crowd around these parts, he may have shot loads just barely powerful enough to make the 125 power factor.

Just an amusing aside, one local guy shoots a 6" STI in 9mm loaded with so much powder that the cases fly a full six inches from the ejection port!

Race gun usually refers to an IPSC open class gun (usually dot sight and porting/compensator). Limited race gun is essentially the same thing without dot or comp.

A High Power, even with Bar Sto and Bo Mars would not usually be considered a race gun.

The guy is down to $550 on the price...

"Belgium Browning Custom High Cap Race Gun w/Bo-mar sights, Bar-sto barrel, custom trigger and triggerguard w/Belgium high cap mags..."

It is compensated. The seller says that it appraises for $800 including the two hi-cap mags. The seller started at $650 when I first inquired and is down to $550 with me. I have no idea who has done any of the custom work and neither does the seller. Trigger work could be good, which would be a REALLY good thing, or the trigger work could be bad, and that would be very sad. Since I can't handle the firearm without purchasing it first, (the guy is two states away, he did say he'd give a three day return, I trust him), but I think I'm going to pass on this one.

It sure sounded good until you guys educated me a bit.

I'll go with a stock gun from my local dealer. Thanks for the learnin';)
