BNP .38 England

Question, I have this .38 revolver that was given to my wife from her dad. Not sure the make or model, or for that matter, the era. It also has a "Queens" headgerar stamp. Here are some stampings that are on the gun.

BNP
.38
England
U1908 (assuming the manuf Date?)
J497 (on the cylinder)
767"

Any help on the history or any info would be gratefull. I have tons of firearms old and new, but this one has stumped me. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Work on the picture.
A detailed verbal description to ID a gun by is pretty difficult and you don't have nearly enough information.
 
Is it a top-break or swing-out cylinder?

Top-break is either the Webley or Enfield. Swing-out maybe a S&W or Colt.
 
BNP means British Nitro Proof. It means the British pressure tested the firearm before it left military service. The .38 means the caliber, obviously (my guess is .38 S&W, probably not .38 Special). The term England means it was imported from England. Basically these two combined are the import stamp. They don't do this anymore so it is an older import. Can't help you beyond that with what you have provided.
 
Thank You. That is pretty much the gun. Though mine is a (snubber), the ones in the pics that you suggested look all to be 3.5" barrels. Still not sure if its a MKl or MKll, leaning towards the MKl. Thank You again.
