i have a blued ruger flat top and blueing doesn't really last in my hands so i'm wondering if blue can be refinished to stainless? nickel plated? sorry if this question has been asked before, i tried to search but couldn't find anything. thank you

You can't "refinish" carbon steel to stainless steel.

What you can do, is send the gun out and have it hard chrome plated.

This is a HARD plating that's bonded directly to the steel.
It's far more tough and durable than any bright nickel plated finish.
In appearance it can range from a satin pearl-gray, to a stainless steel look, to a bright mirror shine.

Here's just a few of the platers who do excellent gun work:

There are several more.
Each plater offers differences in how the final appearance looks.

SS is a metal not a finish. There are a plethora of finishes from parkerizing to nickle(that's a 19th Century finish that will come off eventually), but it's difficult to beat the industrial hard chrome Dfariswheel mentions. It polishes itself on rails etc.

The Robar finishes are nickel.
Nickel is not just a "19th century finish that will eventually come off."
Nickel is certainly better than the high tech "gun paints" that are routinely sprayed on today's "high tech" guns.
Nickel can be applied directly to steel, also.
Industrial hard chrome is slightly more durable.
