Blue, Paint, Moly-coat ????

I have 2 pistol slides that desperately need refinishing, but I can't afford to send them out to get re-blued. These are not collectables and are not from expensive guns. Even still, I don't want them to look like trash (right now they're fighting minor rust and one slide has worn through about 40% of the finish). What other cost saving options do I have. Someone suggested I just spray-paint them using grill paint. If I go that route do I need to remove the rest of the blueing? What kind of paint should I use? What kind of paint is resistant to kerosene and mineral spirits (I use a mixture of these, with some oils mixed in, to clean my guns)? My option is to leave them "as is".
