i was wondering if you colt AR pro's can tell me an exact difference between blue and green label ar 15s .. also .. there is a site .. prebanarms.com .. which offers all types of ars for sale .. and i want to know ..
1. if the lower reciever is green label and UNBLOCKED.. does that mean that hypathetically (spelling error probably) if i wanted to legally convert to full auto, all i would have to do is literally drop in the full auto sear, full auto bolt, and the rest of the full auto parts .. or would i still have to drill a hole in the lower reciever for the sear pin..
i just wonder .. this is totally hypothetical and for all you batf guys who are reading this, i aint a criminal .. dont even bother .. :p
2. also, what is a' factory drilled push pin detent'.
3. and what is a 'raised fence' ..
4. last of all, would any of you people, if you were interested enough, purchase one of these green label, ar-15's with all of these features on the firearm, for the enormous price of $3,300 dollars ?...
i am debating purchasing one of these babies, but my friends dad, ( viet nam vet ) laughs histericaly when i mention paying 3,300 dollars for an ar-15 .. preban features or no preban features ..
PERSONALLY .. I WANT ONE ... i dont really care what he thinks ... your opinion fella's??
thanks in advance .. i will check back on this thread as soon as i can .. :D

Lesse, 3300 for a pre-ban that can't be Legally converted??? Maybe 1500 private sale if its nice. 650 for a post-ban. If you must spend 3300, pitch in another 3 thou and get an M-16 Title II weapon.

I paid 775 for my Bushmaster 20'' postban and I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between mine and the green label, blue label, pink, and violet labels... No point in spending that extra cash on a pre-ban... all you get is a flash hider and a bayo lug. Get a regular old AR postban... you won't be sorry... but if you pay 3300 for one... it better be able to clean itself, fire itself, do nothing but 1/2 MOA at 300 m and cook you breakfast... anything less and I think everyone will laugh at you... I'd say 1100 samolians and no more...But thats just me. Hope that helps.

At http://www.shotgunnews.com you can find ads by Class III dealers. Some of these will have web sites. You could contact them as to the legality of any converting.

Seat of the pants, it seems as though "converting" to selective fire is pretty close to BATF-rules impossible, although I won't offer that as definitive info.

thanks for the info .. but the question isnt about wether its legal to convert to full auto in ny ... i KNOW IT ISNT.. i just need the other questions answered to the best of you guys' ability .. i need to know specifics about the raised fence and factory drilled push pin detent .. all that tech stuff ..
and as for silencers .. the only way you can even dream of owning a legal silencer is if you have acres and acres of land and go thru a million forms to obtain one for the purpose of VARMINT CONTROL.. a buddy of mine who owns 300 acres is currently at form II for the silencer .. once he gets batf approval, he plans on obtaining a silencer and mounting it on his rifle and killin some fox and other varmint .. i am not kiddin .. i was shocked when i heard THAT was even possible .. anyway .. your info is always welcome .. but i need the other questions answered ..

The business about having to own land to buy a silencer may be some sort of state or local law or CLEO BS; it is not a federal law or regulation. I know many people (in MD) who own silenced firearms legally and who do not own land or shoot varmints.

A raised fence is a ridge that goes around the area where the mag release is. Early models do not have this and are called slab sides, because they are flat. the raised fence was added to make it easier to find the mag release without looking, and so your finger is less likely to slip off it once you have found it.

The factory drilled push pin detent is standard on any AR that has a push pin from the factory. Early Colts do not have a push pin on the front hinge point. They have a two piece screw. You can install a push pin, I believe, but if you don't have the detent, the pin can work it's way out. I suppose some people who prefer the push pin may have modified their rifle to accept the push pin by having a detent (spring and bearing) installed into the frame, but then the rifle is not in original condition.

If you want a nice AR, get a pre-ban. But there is no way I would spend three grand on one and then shoot it. There are plenty of NIB pre-bans available for half that price.

I had an SP-1, very nice light rifle. Wish I had not traded it. Looking for a pre-ban Bushmaster right now. No Blue Label/ Green Label head scratching there. Just milspec with all the evil features.
