hey guys, i have just starting playing with this 22 BATOR mold

i have never used gas checks, i dont want to makke them just yet, whats a good source? i have setlled on gator checks for price, any good? how do i put them on? i assume with the sizing die so i have sized these yet, should i put them on before PC?

i also plan to put the mold on the mill this weekend to try to get a pointier shape, not sure if i will be able to find a good shank or be able to get in clamped down correctly, but will play with idea

Whether you put them on before PC or not, depends on the shank size. If it'll fit after, it's easier. But if not, you have to put it on first, or shield the shank some way while you coat. This only works if you spray em though.
Some use a tray with holes drilled in it and some use various sized washers under their Al foil. If you size em with a Lee push thru sizer, be careful if you do it before you check em, since the nose-first sizing process itself will flatten out (and widen) the GC shank.

why cant i powder-coat with check on? also, i can just flip over and size base first, right?

*edit: nevermind, your not saying i cant

Yes, you can PC with check on. :) On mine with tight shanks, I run it though the sizer once to seat the checks, then coat the whole thing, then it final sizes right on through the sizer after PC as well.

Slick as a wet lizard! ;)

Not that I have seen. I buy both and I make both, and it really all just comes down to which you find for the best price.

That looks pretty nice. I'll have to wait and see how difficult it ends up being for me. I just ordered the checks, so I guess ill have em sometime next week.
