Bloomberg video about Australian Gun Control

Here’s a video from the Bloomberg folk that talks about Australian gun control.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWZcOWAIcPw

They talk about how the reaction to Port Arthur massacre radically changed gun laws in Australia.

At about the 1:20 mark in the video they say the Port Arthur massacre was carried out with two firearms, “an AR-15 and a .308 FN”. They show pictures of the two rifles and state “both guns were semi-automatic, rapid fire weapons.” They have animated arrows pointing to the rifles as the narration talks about them. The problem is, without looking at all closely, you can see the “.308 FN” is a scoped, bolt action rifle.

Does this negate the “facts” and figures presented in the video?

I think this error DOES call into question how much care went into making the video.

Other folk have very nicely countered the “facts” and figures thrown out in the video and I am very grateful we have folks around that will do that work.

Gun control down under was/is a travesty of epic proportions! Thing is, Gun crime is still happening but now the good guys may only have an old bolt action Lee Enfield from the 20th Century world wars. This is what happens when you live in a socialist country where the government is prime and they don’t trust their subjects with the basic tools needed to shirk off a tyrannical government. I feel bad for them ol boys down under. They are some pretty tough, fun loving, good time having hombres. ><

Basing their demands on ignorance and fear-mongering is standard practice for control proponents. Facts are good counters to those types of arguments. One thing I try to do is to ask people what effect laws that they want to emulate have had on the overall rate of violent crime. It is usually far smaller than the changes in rates of "gun violence." Thus the valid point can be made to those who actually listen and think that shifting weaponry is not a gain or a worthwhile goal.
