Blinking while shooting

I've been shooting for years, but I've never been able to get over blinking when the gun goes off. Since I've done it so long, the blink is really quick and I can even shoot IDPA without really being hampered by it. I do, however, feel quite embarrassed when someone's watching me shoot and might see it. I have notices that I can shoot a .22 without blinking, but that's about it. Any suggestions on getting rid of the problem?

I blink; never noticed it affecting my double-taps back in my IPSC daze. Probably did, I guess...

Anyhow, just guessing, I'd suggest going to a range and concentrating on not blinking when you shoot, rather than on centering the target. You're not gonna be so far off as to be a danger. Just concentrate on keeping from blinking. Maybe force your eyes as wide open as you can hold them.

Just a guess...

If you don't blink with a .22, try slowly progressing - .38 special, 9mm, .40 etc. I found that even .38 special wasn't hard with concentration, 9mm wasn't bad, but the step to .40 took a while not to blink. After 6 months now, no blink with .45, but .44 mag(what did I expect) still makes me blink.

Frontsight,

I concentrate on my frontsight and trigger press. When training slow, I'll go so far as to say Squeeeeeeeze in my head until the shot goes off. When coaching I'll say it the shooter's ear. It helps eliminate any flinching, which I would imagine is what the blink is. Never noticed it myself, but I've had my share of other problems.

You could always try tape

Shooting with double hearing protection and sticking to low-flash ammo works for me. However, I did blink *every time* when using friend's 2" ported Taurus (617?)...that convinced me to avoid ported guns for serious purposes.

i sometimes blink when i'm shooting. some days i do it more than others.

the 2 things i do to try to stop blinking are:

1. squeeze the trigger very slowly and smoothly. don't think about it going off and don't know when the gun will go off. if you don't know when it will go off then it will surpize you and you won't blink

2. just concentrate on keeping you eyes open. if i notice that on the last shot i shot i blinked then on the next one i just think about seeing the muzzle flash. if i can see the muzzle flash from the gun then i know i had my eyes open.
