Blending a S A magwell

I did mine with a set of needle files and some 800 grit wet/dry paper from Auto Zone.

These days, I think I'd just break the edge with my Dremel and then use the paper to smooth it out.

I'll post a pic if necessary, but I just opened up the angle a bit more aggressively than what came on the Simth and Alexander magwell and filed back anywhere it overhung the opening. I stayed away from removing anything from the mainspring side of the magwell because it didn't appear useful...just opened up the left and right sides.

Magwell

If possible could you post some pics. Hog_______ site shows him using a lathe which I dont have but demel I do have a nd some files I will look for . Jewler files I think

I think you're talking about the Blindhogg site. He uses a milling machine to get a precise cut. If you are really focused on a perfect cut, send it to Evolution Gun Works and they'll blend it for $30. Of course, shipping the frame can get pricey.....

I can post pics of mine, but it looks a lot like Blindhogg's save that I opened mine up a bit more.

Depending on your 1911, there is usually a small bevel in the mag opening machined into the frame. I just filed away on the S&A magwell until it matched that angle. I don't like taking metal off the frame of the gun, but some people open them up as much as possible.

I blend them into the cut that is already on the lower end. I leave the lower like it is in case I want to dump the S&A Mag well/mainspring hoousing and return to the stock MSH.
Before these parts came out, all I did was get rid of the sharp edges all the way around the magazine entry area. That works great, but it doesn't cost much. Oh well.......................
