Blazer Brass in 9mm?

I've had good luck with CCI's Blazer Brass in .40 so when I saw some in 9mm I grabbed it. Got to the range today and go figure - it's by far the worst 9mm ammo I've ever used. It didn't "group" so much as it "patterned", the finish on the ammo was terrible (looked like crappy reloads, all dull and knicked up), and one of the rounds even had the bullet seated at an angle in the casing with a nasty wrinkle in the side of the case! Yeesh, I'll take Eastern European 9mm over this stuff in a heartbeat! Heck, I can't really say anything bad about ANY brand of factory 9mm I've seen in the last ten years except this stuff...

So what gives? Has anyone else noticed that Blazer Brass in 9mm is crummy or did I just get a bad production batch of the stuff or what?

Surprised,
Oly

 I've used lots of both Blazer Brass and Aluminum and never had a problem with it. I bought 6 boxes of 9mm Blazer Brass about 6 weeks ago and it was fine.

Blazer has only started looking like hell in the last 1 1/2 years or so.I've always had good luck with it however.Federals FMJ ammo looks just like it.

I have never had a problem with any Blazer ammo. When ammo was everywhere, I would choose Blazer over the WWB. It's a bit cheaper but from experience cleaner than the WWB. As for accuarcy, when I'm off target its ussually me. Unless I'm shooting from a rest (which rarely do) I never blame the ammo.

I for one have nothing but good luck with it, I can always get it and right now is the cheapest and best ammo for the buck, I am guessing for whatever reason you got a bad batch.

My Independence 115 grain ball (federal) is loaded in blazer brass. Not too surprising as it is all under the ATK umbrella. It shoots well enough and the cases have worked very well in some reloads.

its all i buy for range use.never an issue and ive even noticed the gun is cleaner with this ammo than most....maybe its just me but looks like it too me.
im thinking you got a bad batch....can happen with any manufacture.

I've had good groups with BB. For the price, it is very acceptable to me for quality practice time.

Well that's just it dude - I WAS shooting from a rest after I sensed something wasn't right and I compared the stuff to two other brands I had on hand. For whatever reason it was patterning something like three times the size of groups I was getting with aluminum Blazer and Independence.

I appreciate the feedback but please save the "it's not the camera, it's the photographer" comments until you get a bit more info.

Thanks for the feedback all! That's what I was looking for. As I said I've always had good luck with it in .40 and didn't hesitate to buy based on that experience. I'm guessing I did indeed get a bad batch since you're all having good luck with it.

With that in mind, I think it's interesting that one of you noted that the ammo started looking kind of crappy just over a year ago (but that it still functions well). I'm wondering if the manufacturers haven't removed a tumbling or polishing step from bullet and case production in order to keep the price point down on this "plinking" type ammo? After all, their top shelf Lawman etc. ammo still looks lovely. Of course that's just fine as long as it functions well and groups as tight as one has every right to expect!

You know, the other thing that comes to mind is that I got a terrible batch of Winchester .22LRs recently also. Worst .22 ammo I've seen in my life - would not function in any autoloader I have and fouled up my revolvers to boot. Some of the rounds in the plastic boxes had clumps of propellant (ball powder or whatever it is they use these days in .22s) stuck to their sides as if the propellant had gotten mixed with lacquer and then splattered all over the place. Five boxes were all the same, obviously a bad batch. Hey no worries, I'll get over it but I'm wondering if the ammo factories are all working three shifts and riding them horses hard/putting 'em away wet? I dunno, maybe not, maybe I'm just shooting more these days so it's an odds thing...just thinking out loud...

Thanks again,
Oly

>>>where did you buy it? are you sure someone didn't reload some brass and put it in Blazer boxes?<<<

I'm certain I got it at Wally World so I don't think that's likely but it's a good question.

Thanks,
Oly
