Blackhawk memories

Trying to gather info regarding a gun my Dad taught me shooting with.
It was a Ruger Blackhawk 357 bicentennial ed. It came with a non-fluted cylinder that i dont think we ever put to use. ?? Does this sound right?...and if so, what round could that have been for?

They made -MANY- Blackhawk convertibles that came with a .38/.357 cylinder (that you used) and an accessory 9mm cylinder (that it sounds like you did not use!) :)

Thanks for the responses. As I search more ...starting to second guess my memory because he also had 'matching' Blackhawk 22 ...and it looks like the 22mag cylinder is/was smooth(?)

I don't know about the non-fluted cylinder. The bicentennial Blackhawk .357 that I have looks just like any other New Model Blackhawk except for the roll marks on the barrel.

AFAIK, there were no Ruger Bicentennial Edition revolvers (or rifles) - EVERY firearm Ruger made in 1976 was stamped with the above shown "made in the 200th year of American Lliberty".

IIRC, the only three Ruger SA revolvers made with an unfluted cylinder were the BearCat (roll-engraved), the Single-Six (extra cylinder), and the Bisley Models (both RF & CF models).

BTW - There's no such thing as a "Blackhawk .22". All BH's were CF, not RF.

After 70+ years, I can definitely state that some memories aren't what they're cracked up to be...... ;)

You forgot the Super Blackhawk...

Wow thanks for all the info :)
I now do believe the extra cylinder was not a figment of my imagination but rather the 22mag cyl for his 22!
The blackhawk and the 22 were "matching" style black with wooden grips ...really basic and pretty ...both so fun to shoot.
The 22 must have been a Single-Six. I dont think we ever shot a single 22 mag with it ...kind of a bummer now that i think about it.

Been a long time since ive shot, but just lately my wife and friends (who have never shot before) lit a fire under my arse and got me to take them to an indoor range.
Shot a ruger vaquero 357 because it was the closest they had to the blackhawk i learned with. Gotta say I was disappointed. It was stainless and the hammer was slippery and it just didnt feel right in my hand overall. ...guess I miss that old blackhawk!

There are boat loads of new and used Blackhawks, and Single Six's for sale out there.

Keep your eyes open and you should have little trouble finding what you want.
