Blackhawk Cylinder Length

10mm

What is the maximum cartridge length that a New Model Ruger Balckhawk .45ACP/.45Colt will accept? Just wondering as I have one that I can't pick up yet but I want to load some ammo so I'm ready for the range. I have some 310g LBT bullets from Leadheads and when loaded to the crimp groove they measure 1.694" and the MAX cartridge length in the Speer manual lists 1.600" as the MAX. I loaded thirty and I have a .454 Ruger SRH to shoot them through if they don't fit but I want to have some Colt ammo that I can use the run the Blackhawk through it's paces.

I'm not home to measure my Blackhawk, but I can tell you that Leadheads 310gr LBT loaded to the crimp groove fit just fine in my Blackhawk. They even (barely) fit in my Smith 25-7 which has a little bit shorter cylinder than the Blackhawk.

Thanks John.

I read (and read frequently) your website and saw the .45 Colt data with the Leadhead 310 LBT. I figured it fit in your Blackhawk but I just wanted to double check. I had some of the 310s here from my .454 Casull loads so I thought I'd give them a try. Thanks for the info and the great site.

Cool. I have some room with which to work :)

Do you (or anybody else) know of a commercial source of either 310g or 325g cast Keith style SWC bullets?

Thanks again. I can't believe I missed that one. I'm getting ready to place an order there and I looked right over it.

Stay safe and happy shooting.
