Blackened Stainless .. Can it be Removed?

I have just purchased a Remington 700 with a factory blackened stainless barrel. Near the muzzle there is some unusual "spotting" as if some type of chemical has caused the blackening to have disappeared. Does anyone know what will remove the blackening?

Thanks to all !

Rem 700 SS blackening

I take it off by soaking in Evap O Rust before reblueing. Brownell's sells it in small quantities. For a one time use, I'd try EZ Off Oven Cleaner or one of the many liquids recommended by home gunsmiths for regular blueing.

Hey George !!

You are the man!!! Thanks a million! I hope to give that a try next week. By the way I will be making contact w/ you about some other work.....
Again Thanks !

EZ Off Oven Cleaner is for removing carbon. And it's caustic. Surf over to Brownell's site and rummage around. They sell the blackener so they'll likely have a remover too.
