Anyone got any idea what to use as a rubberized coating on a rifle stock. What I am looking for is something to cover the checkering on my Savage FP stock.

Am looking for something similar to the Tango 51 (click link for a picture)

Is somehting like this available or is it simply an epoxy mix.

Probably not as durable as a finish, but you might consider Pac-Skin from Pachmayr. Inexpensive, flexible, comfortable. They make pre-cut sets for stocks or you can fabricate your own.

Don't blow my out of the water but what about molding black silecon sealant. Sorta spread it smooth and then dapple it with a dental tool. I know it sounds off the wall but that stuff is like iron when dry but stays soft. I used to install underdash stereos brackets in cars with the stuff. You would need to cut the bracket off with a razor.....Oh geez, did I ever just date myself  I bett hatter the people here don't have a clue about an underdash stereo.

Well then just primer it and paint the stock. It was just an idea.

What about "plasti-dip" the stuff you use for recoating tool handles after that rubbery coating has worn off of things like your needle nose pliers.

Don't know how it would hold up if it were painted around a grip or something like that but you should be able to find it in black, or red :)

Uglygun, I was thinking maybe that's what they used, but I have only seen it in red, and that was several years ago. Any idea where to look for it?

Plati-dip comes in various colors but most places don't stock them.

Also, Plasti-dip is available as a spray paint which would be easier for you to apply and has a more uniform thickness. drips would also be minimized.

I've seen spray on plasti-dip at some home improvement stores and electrical supply stores like "Radio Shack." Apparently some people use it as electrical wire insulation.
