I got this from a guy in the bay area, near where I live (CA)
(A.K.A. Behind Enemy Lines)

(The two powders on the left and the center are for pistol, the one on the right is for rifle. The small tins are caps; the black ones are #10 and the other one is #11)

I think your "enemy lines" there are the bridges. It is illegal to transport that red can over a bridge on through a tunnel there. I lived north of you for more time than I would like to admit to and a supplier from Belmont couldn't deliver it to the north bay area, since there were bridges in between us.

That Goex 3F will also work fine in small to medium rifles with the proper loads. I have used it in my .50 T/C Pa. Hunter with a patched ball and got exceptional accuracy.
 
Old Stony - It was a private transaction (FTF) no laws against it (yet).

It's funny - Black Powder hasn't been overregulated- in CA, like they've done with modern and C&R firearms (as of Jan 1 2014 in CA there is no difference between a gun that's is 5-days old and one that is 50+years old. The only you can get around the 10-day waiting period is having a C&R Lic, plus a COE). :(

I'm sure in time they'll overregulate black powder as well!
 
I have no doubt they will find a way to over regulate the black powder there. I know it's highly unlikely you would ever have a problem with it, but if I am not mistaken, it is still illegal there to transport it over a bridge for any reason. I had a friend there that did cannon shoots in far northern Ca., and they ran into problems transporting enough black for their shoots. The law allowed loaded ammo to be transported, so they all purchased large brass cases cases and made bullets to slip on to them. They would place baggies of black powder into the case and put a wooden bullet in place...and it was legal transportation.
It is a sad situation that people have to do things like this.
I had a black powder license in my shop in Ca. at one time. I was allowed to purchase it in 25 lb. cases, but could not have over 5 lbs. in an approved powder vault on my premises at a time. The powder had to be shipped from somewhere other than the south bay as bridges had to be crossed.
I gave up selling it there.....the situation was nuts !
 
Had to visit CA (Berkley) on business

Went into a food store to the magazine section looking for a Guns and Ammo.

Nothin' doin'!

Plenty of soft Pee Oh Are En but no magazines for the firearms enthusiast. Our children are in good hands.

Where is the San Andreas Fault? Is it far enough east to catch the bulk of the Communists?

California will never fall off because New Jersey sucks too much. (IMO)
 
Doc....I think the fault runs about through the middle of Berkley, which is okay. It's not like it will be missed after the big one hits.
 
It is very unkind of me, and of course completely "tongue in cheek"

to criticize a noble state in our fair union because of the leanings of an uniformed minority.

I have spent much time in CA and there is a lot to love.

I was born in Cali and raised in Fremont (in the SF bay area) from 1970 to 1988 after which I moved down to the pismo beach area. I left the state for good in 91' when I joined the army and every time I returned to visit friends and family, the deterioration of my beautiful home state was heartbreaking. I have my childhood memories left but am actually dreading my trip this summer to visit my father in the sierras. IMHO you would need more than just the San Andreas fault to reverse the damage done.

I want to hasten to mention that there are folks who would be offended by my statements about both CA and NJ. I am an equal opportunity offender. And what I said was indeed unkind and only about 25% accurate.

As I said, I have been to CA dozens of times and always left wanting to return. I can tolerate the politics. But I do acknowledgethat others should not have to tolerate my verbal abuse.
 
I live in Ca they ship black powder to my front door. The town i live in has a bass pro shop they also sell it. Making your own is the way to go.
