Has anyone tried lubricating the wads for the cap and ball revolvers with cooking spray? I'm thinking of punching out my own felt wads and placing them in a ziplock bag then spraying them down with cooking spray. Replies are welcome.

Sure, I think that something like PAM will do as good a job as, say, Crisco does as a lubricant and fouling softener. I've sprayed it down the barrel and also used it on the cylinder pins of my Colt and Remingtons with good performance.

I've never made my own wads, so I can't speak from practical experience, though.

I've haven't tried cooking spray. I'm more likely to try out bore butter. Currently using 50-50% beeswax-Crisco. Some cooking sprays list water in their ingredients. Before you buy check the ingredients to make sure you are getting the one without any water.

I got an old pickle jar (Hamburger dills or somesuch) and filled it 60/40 beeswax and Crisco. I found the 50/50 mixture got runny in the SC. heat. To the 60/40 mix I added about 2 ounces of olive oil and popped it in the microwave until melted. Now I just 'nuke' the jar to dip wads or use a popsicle stick to use it unheated... either to cover chambers or fill the lube channels in the conicals.
