Black Powder velocities with Olde Eynsford in SAA clones

Hello everybody!! I was finally able to get out in nice weather to chrono some BP 45 Colt loads out of some SAA clones.

The guns used are a Pietta (Heritage Big Bore) 4 3/4in, Cimarron Old Model P 5 1/2in, and a Uberti Old Model P 7 1/2in.

The load is 40 grns of FFFG (3F) Olde Eynsford under a 250grn PRS Big Lube bullet. All loads fired 10 feet from chrono.

4 3/4 Bbl Pietta:

1. 925
2. 903
3. 927
4. 923
5.934
Average 922.4

Cimarron 5 1/2 Bbl :

1. 1004
2. 967
3. 1048
4. 1070
5. 1047
Average 1027.2

Uberti 7 1/2 Bbl:

1. 1028
2. 1049
3. 1018
4. 1026
5. 1010
Average 1026.2

Thought Y'all may be interested! :D

I don't know, sir. I haven't tested Swiss yet but have some on order. 2 and 3FG, as well as 2FG Olde Eynsforde to see if velocities are significantly different.

I will say this... Compared to standard 3F Goex this powder is very clean. Almost as different as smokeless to BP soot!

From what little comparisons I've seen is that they are very similar. Swiss may be ever so slightly more consistent and with a slightly higher velocity, but we are talking very minimal.

medic15al, thanks for this thread, I have a couple of SA clones I've been considering trying some black powder or a black powder substitute in.

What kind of accuracy are you getting from the loads you posted?

Ive got blood in my eyes now so my vision is a bit smoky now, but at 20 yds offhand with the razor thin sight on a B-27 I can keep 5 rnds in the 9 ring with an occasional flyer in the 8 ring that is my fault. Not able to bench the loads until I get my eye cleaned out in surgery soon.

In the past before my eyes rebelled on my with Goex FFFG 35grns 250 grn PRS bullet I could bench 2.5-3 in circle at the distance.
