I have a 1859 Pedersoli Sharps Does anyone use black powder substitutes in this rifle, American Pioneer, Pinnacle, Triple 7 or Pyrodex besides Black Powder ? I will be using a Rapine 544475. Any loading data?

don't have one of those but have used pyrodex in my .50 caplock. it did OK but left a bad 'crud ring' right at the breech area which made wiping harder and accuracy was not quite as good as Holy Black. also seemed harder to clean. I use it in my percussion revolvers however and it seems as good as Black, more shots per lb. also. good luck.

Don't have one of those either. I use Pyrodex because true black isn't readily available here. I never had a cleaning problem with it, just use hot soapy water. Don't use petroleum based lubes or you do get hard crusty fouling but that's with bp or any sub cept APP. It(Pyro)is more corrosive than bp but not as bad as most people think. I sometimes go a day or two after extensive firing before cleaning and no rust. If you use Triple7 reduce your loads by at least 10% because it is stronger than true bp.
