Hey all...my first post here...Im usually on the blackpowder/CAS part of TFL..I had a non violent conviction of theft back in '83 (and yes, even to this day, I consider myself an idiot for doing it) but recently found out it is legal here in MO to own blackpowder guns, as long as they arnt converters or readily to shoot ready made cartridges...I was raised on a farm, and have allways been around hunting and guns.....untill that mistake changed my way of life...But at least I can have SOME aspects of the shooting sports back in my life now...Any comments on this?

This might sound simplistic but you are allowed to do what the law allows. Is there a process in your state to get your rights restored? A youthful indiscretion should not haunt you if you have been a good citizen since '83. You may be able to get the record expunged. Best of luck to you!

You can buy a black powder and then buy a conversion cylinder to shoot regular cartridges. Without going through all the background check and paperwork junk. No it's not illegal either. Because the cylinder is just a part, not a gun. At least one firearm can be legally purchased without the feds "permission."

Hey Path..Ive checked into that..a lot!!, but that happened in Harris county Texas, and hiring a lawyer down there to do the process aint exactlly cheap, and although the petition for a pardon from the TDP (Board Of Pardons And Paroles) is downloadable online...the process involves a ton of paperwork and other "red tape" that is best handled by a compitent attorney.....Ive also written to Second Amendment organizations for legal help, with no response back...!! Doug, actually, buying the converter is legal yes, but here, in MO..ATF doesnt consider a muzzleloader a firearm...but, yer right, no background checks with buying a converter, but if I was to be caught with that conversion gun, then Id be in "posession" of a firearm, and I aint about to take that chance!!!, so actually, it is illeagle to be in posession of one....I called the ATF here, and they reasured me of that... Thanks fer the replys..
