black polymer finish

I bought a CZ 75B pistol in black polymer. The one in the case at my local gunshop was a fairly shiney black. The one I got looks almost oxydized. I've tried to bring-out a little luster by polishing with Flitz gun wax. No change. Anybody have a suggestion?

Thanks!

Is it new? If so, call CZ USA. They warantee the finish. (I'd suggest not mentioning the Flitz ;) )

That is a plasic finish on those, so be very careful with what you use on it. If really you want to mess with it yourself, I'd suggest a plastic polish, not a metal polish like Flitz. However, if you wear it off, it's going to get expensive quick.

I mentioned bluing a CZ-75 (not B) elsewhere on this forum.

I tried several things to get the polycoat off. One of the things I tried was aerosol brake cleaner. Didn't take it off, but definitely DID dull the finish. Sounds like someone tried cleaning yours with GunScrubber or Brake Cleaner/Carb Cleaner.

As someone else suggested: see if can find some plastic polish. (Maybe the stuff they use to clean/polish fibreglas. Or, more simply, car wax. It maybe needs a coating of wax to return the shine...)

Walt, I use Gunscrubber and Prestone Brake Cleaner on my CZ-40B and my CZ-75B. It hasn't dulled the finish at all. What did you do, soak it in the stuff?

However, I always do wipe it down with CLP when I'm done. maybe that helped.

What finally got the poly finish off?

Dull polycote

Duh..I'm not an idiot...hyuk, hyuk!

First of all thanks for your input! A.) It is not Matte Black. B.) Flitz makes many products: a METAL POLISH(I did NOT use this on the finish), a "GUN WAX" that contains carnuba and bee's wax...this (wax) is what I've used to try and bring-out some luster w/o success.

I rubbed it with a silicone cloth and it looks a bit nicer. I DID clean the innards with Gun Cleaner(brake cleaner, by another name) and it didn't alter the finish..and I did wipe the exterior surfaces with Break Free clp...looks great, but slippery to handle when all greased-up(like my wife).

I ordered a NIB CZ 75B, but the stamp above extractor indicates it was manufactured in 1998. Oh well, at $340.00(including CA tax), I'm happy with it!

I used brake cleaner on an older CZ-75 (not a "B"); dated 1989. It dulled that paint coating. I was hoping to remove the finish. I just sprayed it on and wiped it off, hoping to see more paint come off. It didn't. (Other shooters I've talked with said that this type of cleaner "softened" the finish on the 75Bs.)

Perhaps they've changed the formulation of the polycoat since then. Mike, the CZ gunsmith has told others on the CZ Forum that Gunscrubber and brake cleaner is OK for the CZ polycoat.

At the recommendation of another CZ forum member, I used Auto paint remover, in an aerosol can. It not only worked, it did it quickly. A minute or two after spraying, the polycoat was literally falling off the gun. Amazing.

Me too.

I've used every brand of spray gun cleaner on my '96 Military and it does look like heck when it dries. You should see what it does to the polished flats on a stainless Kimber Gold Match.

To get them looking like new, I spray a little Sheath on a patch and wipe them down(or just spray the entire gun sometimes.)

The new CZs I've seen have been soaking in a bag of oil since leaving the factory. No wonder they're shiny.
