I am in the middle of this finely written book about another cause the U.S. military should not have been involved in. The book is called Black Hawk Down, by Mark Bowden. It details the mission to kidnap Somali lieutenants of a renagade warlord clan. It describes the failed attempt and the tragic loss of U.S. Special Forces and pilots. Very intense and heart wrenching. A must read.

ursus, et al: You can also get the gist of Bowden's book on the Philidelphia Inquirer's website. I believe he's one of their journalists. He did his home work and interviewed the right people.

If you like good books, try "Bravo Two Zero" by Andy McNab. It's about a SAS patrol he led in the Gulf War that went a little awry. He wrote another book that is a survey of his SAS experiences that I cannot remember offhand.

Orr Kelly's "Brave Men, Dark Waters," is another good one.
