Does anyone know of a sourse for black chrome or black nickel plating?

Not to rain on your parade, but the folks at Checkmate told me once that black chrome is not recommended because it is relatively soft and not as durable as electroless nickle or hard chrome.
Is this still the case?
I love the look of black chrome, but I don't want something that's not going to wear significantly better than blue.

Ken, you aren't raining on my parade. I agree that it isn't a long lasting finish. It is more decorative than functional but it is a finish that a lot of folks want on their firearms. George

I understand that black chrome is not a good finish for a firearm, however it's use in my case is only cosmetic.
I am still looking for a good sourse....any sugestions?
