Bismuth / Tungsten shot

Can either one of these be used with a full or extra full choke, like lead - are they soft enough to deform rather than blow out your choke? Or is it like steel - stick with modified down? I want to say that full is fine, but not extra full, but perhaps extra full is ok too? Thanks.

Bismuth, yes. It is soft like lead, so it will not damage the choke.

Tungsten? Depends on which tungsten shot you are referring to. Tungsten/poly, yes, will not hurt the choke. It is tungsten powder in plastic and is soft. Tungsten/iron, tungsten/bronze, tungsten/copper/tin are all too hard and will damage the choke on your gun unless you are using screw-in chokes. Most of the people I have spoken with try not to use too tight a choke because it will blow out the patterns, but that could be the gun.

OK, thanks Scorch; good info; to be more specific, what about Rem Hevi-Shot, which I think is tungsten and iron - what's the tightest screw-in choke to use?
