Bisleys to Blackhawks.....

When Ruger first introduced the Bisley, I had to try it out. Handled hard kickin' hand loads better, the scribes said. So, bought or built up a couple to try out. Didn't quite agree with the scribes, preferred the Super Blackhawk grip for less knuckle bashing. Here, top gun a Bisley in .45 Colt:

And after the smoke cleared, transformed into a "Super" Blackhawk:

And, a short barreled Bisley .45 (ex-Blackhawk):

And, back to Blackhawk (I already have one set up as a Super Blackhawk):

But, for your viewing pleasure, these are still Bisleys, though belong to a friend of mine. Top gun belonged to Skeeter Skelton:

I put a Bisley grip frame on a short bbl .45 Blackhawk used to shoot pretty hot .300 grainers. To me, it made recoil management easier.

As a matter of information, I built up two guns each, one 7 1/2", one 4 5/8" with Bisley, Super Blackhawk. and Blackhawk grip frames. I shot everthing from 185 gr. SWC to 350 FN bullets, with mild target to dragon-killin' loads. Shot long range and up close, sort of rapid Matt Dillon-style (with the milder loads) duellest shooting.

My favorite grip for the fire breathin' stuff was the Super Blackhawk. For fast point shootin', it was the Blackhawk grip. The Bisley worked O.K. for me with run-of-the-mill loads, but just never cocked my pistol. I know many prefer it, and I won't argue with them, or you, but as for me, no.

Beautiful! I do like the case coloring.... Wish the Rugers still had or would add the option from the factory.

Bob, you have some Damn nice looking revolvers there! I used to have a Bisley .45 LC, but foolishly sold it. However, I just picked up a nice Bisley .22 LR, and this one is staying in the stable!
