This is my dillemma, the ruger bisley vaquero feels really good to me and i really like the look of the gun but am not sure about the fixed sights.I also like the super blackhawk with the adjustable sights for trying different loads and for hunting purposes.I would choose the bisley vaquero over the blackhawk, but am not sure if the fixed sights are practical for hunting.I'm going to get the 44 in what ever i get.I am looking for some experiences with fixed sights with big bore guns and adjustable sights.pros and cons for both i guess. I don't reload and would not be able to fine tune my loads to more acurate with fixed sights, but maybe someday i will get into it.

I own fixed sight rugers , I also own adjustable sight revolvers. I usually recomend adjustable sights for people who are going to hunt with a revolver.
For my vaqueros I shoot a bunch of loads and find the one with the power and accuracy I need and then adjust the sights to match , It is much more work on a fixed sight gun .
You should maybe consider the ruger balckhawk bisley or the bisley hunter each have adjustable sights
I built a stainless ruger balckhawk bisley with adjustable sights and a 7 1/2 inch barrel , when you want a gun they dont make sometimes you can put together enough peices to make what you want.
the standard black hawk bisley is a blue gun. There have been special runs of stainless guns though.

I would definitely go with the adjustable sights for hunting. As smokin54 said, you can certainly adjust fixed sight revolvers, but it is a lot more work and you're not going to want to change it for different loads all the time. Of course you could just pick a load you like, sight it in and stick with it.

I have one of the new Super Blackhawk Hunters and I love it. 7 1/2 inch, stainless, and it comes with rings. The one thing that I do prefer is the Bisley grips, the regular blackhawk grip is too small (for me anyway). Fortunately, you can get the Blackhawk with the Bisley grips.

I originally sighted mine in with iron sights at 50 yds. Off a bench I would get about 4" groups. Later switched over to a 2X bushnell and got the groups down to just over 2".

Not to rush you but, make up your mind and buy ASAP. Ruger is dropping Bisleys. The Blackhawks are still a offered model but, I wouldn't wait too long. The Bisley Hunter model should be around for a little longer. If you want to buy the heavy duty Ruger single actions, get them while you can.

I have the Blackhawks in 357, 44 and 45. Ajustable sights are the way to go. If you are scoping it go SB Hunter in either 44 or 45. They were done as special runs for a couple of the distributors, your dealer can get them pretty easily. You can buy the Bisley frame from Ruger and install it yourself, it's fairly easy. I installed target hammers on my 357 and 45 in about 10 minutes.

fixed or adjustable;

the more you want the firearm to do, the more adjustable it needs to be. I'm looking foward to my first BH,soon I hope. I have the 32 h&r Mag. New model fixed sights.Shoots plain in the middle of my spinner at 25yds . My favorite gun in the whole world is my ruger vaquero ss 45 colt.Looks absolutly beautiful, white grips, soft to hold. I sqeeze the trigger and she responses, sharp and quick, but not to harshly. The smell of smoke, a spinning target......

gotta go
kid

One thing about fixed sights is that if you drop your gun they don't break.
Something to consider if you are hunting in rough or rocky terrain. I know
because I have dropped adjustable sight revolvers. Once they break in the
field you are s.o.l.. If I'm out field hunting I carry my Blackhawk, everywhere
else I carry one of my Vaqueros. If you are considering a Vaquero, you better
act fast as Ruger is dropping the line.
