Bird Head Grip Conversions?

I have searched before asking, but saw nothing on this. I hope the following inquiry doesn't sound too stupid, but here goes.

I have a Colt .22 caliber Peace Maker manufactured in 1976.

Is their a way to add, or convert to, a Bird Head grip such as the Lightning or Thunderer Colt grips?

I would say without seeing the gun the grip frame on the Colt revolver could be changed. At one time it was not uncommon to change grip frames on Custom Colt and Ruger Black Hawk revolvers. That being said I believe I would leave the Colt as is.

Since that gun (AFAIK) was never made with a birdshead grip, just swapping grips won't work; the grip would have to be altered by cutting and welding. Can that be done? Yes, if the grip is steel. Would it be cheap? No. Would it be done right? Who knows? If the grip is aluminum, I wouldn't even try.

I agree with Bob Hunter. Leave it alone.

You guys are right, it would destroy the value.

I'll just work on the boss lady about how important it is to our overall security that I purchase a new Bird Head grip Vaquero or Cimmaron in a .357 or .45 :)

Now your talkin Gary. I would venture to say you will be saving a little money by buying the other gun plus you are keeping the value of the Colt.
The only other thing I have to say is good luck with convincing the Boss Lady.;)
