Bipods

I decided to look around for bipods, and found so many options that I'm going to ask you what you might recommend.
I shoot bolt action rifles in various calibers.
I usually shoot off the bench, and when I hunt I tend to shoot from the sitting position or offhand using a hasty sling.

Harris. I use one for hunting and have taken shots with mine both prone and sitting up. The Harris does a great job and is well made. They aren't exactly cheap but I don't think I'll ever have to buy a replacement.

x2 on the Harris. They make a Bi-pod that to fill just about any shooting position except for standing...

I'd suggest getting the 6"-9" type. I bought a 9" and find it just a bit too tall for prone or bench shooting.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in .308. I wanted a Harris bipod but they are expen$ive. So I got a Caldwell from Academy Sports. It is a 6-9" model and it lets the rifle rock back and forth. I didn't know if I would like that feature but I actually do. The bipod mounted securely to the sling swivel stud, and did not come loose after 40 rounds at the range. If you don't absosmurfly have to have the top of the line, I recommend the Caldwell.

Another vote for Harris. You can often pick up a good used one for the price of the cheapo ones at Walmart. I like the 9-13" model, but it depends on what type of shooting you are doing really. If you are only shooting off of the bench the 6-9" model is probably slightly better.

I used to use a bipod, but in the field it just adds extra bulk and weight to the front of our rifle. I took it off and got a good pair of shooting sticks, would not go back.

I have two, the 6"-9" for field use and a slightly smaller one they label as a bench model....works quite well.

Yep, I have a couple of CHEAP ones that I bought when I thought was saving a buck, after I spent the money for the Harris bi-pod, they now sit in the corner of the garage.
Harris makes good equipment and IMHO are very worth their cost.

Harris makes great bipods. That being said, from your original post, it seems that your only use for the bipod would be bench rest shooting. I have far better results bench shooting with sand bags over a bipod. Just my .02.
