Binocular sees double

Is there a way to align the prisms inside a pair of binoculars? I have a Tasco model 312 (10X50) that have served me well except that at close range it has developed a ghost image just above the clear image. (I guess its sight is affected by old age just like mine seems to be.) I've been told to dump it - but at this point, what the heck - I've already learned a lot - I had no idea there are four prisms inside each pair. I suspect sending it off would not be cost effective. Thanks in advance.

I don't belive that there is and if there was I wouldn't even bother , not for a tasco , just go and spend another $30 on a new one or even better get a good pair that will last forever. Zies ,swarvoskie , leapold ect. ......you'll be much better off..........good luck

And don't forget simons, busnel, burrs and bush & loam. (Sorry, frogman6, I just couldn't resist. ;) )

Bill, I believe frogman6 is right. It's almost impossible to get the prisms back in line if that is the problem. The same thing happened to my wifes opera glasses (actually she calls them her 'Alan Jackson' glasses or just 'opry glasses'.) The problem was a springy rubber gasket that had hardened and allowed the prisms to move around a little. I tried replacing them, but the vision was never as good as the original. I noticed that the prisms are factory adjusted with a number of very thin brass shims on one side or the other. But if the rubber spring device is defective (old), the tiniest movement of the prisms is really magnified.

If'n ya'll check it, I believe Tasco has a lifetime warranty. I have a cheapie,4x scope, and their 16x36 spotting scope, and both came with lifetime warranties. These were both Japanese made. I don't know it this holds true with their stuff now being made in China and the Phillipines.
Check it out. Their web site is (www.tascosales.com).
BTW. I checked out their latest 10x50 at
K-mart. It is now made in China, and I saw double with it. Assuming your Binoculars are Japanese made, I wouldn't accept replacement with a new one, if that is what they offer. I also checked out the Chinese 4x and the Philipine made 3x9 World class, and I wouldn't buy either of those, if the ones I saw were what is normal. Just my not so humble opinion.

Tasco is now made in China for all types except those of higher price specifically marked Japanese. Mine went back 6 times on guarantee, still no good...so I trashed it.(advise you to do same before go mad).
There is no substitute in shooting for having quality, so get a good one first time, I recon you deserve it !
