Bill letting 8-year-olds hunt sparks debate

In most of the southern states there is no age restrictions. IN Alabama When a person becomes 16 he must then purchase a license and he must complete the hunters ed. course before he can do so.
It is my opinion and as for as I know the general opinion of the hunting public if you don;t interest a child in hunting before he is 15 or 16 years old he will most likely never take up the sport. My sons and grandsons started hunting with me as soon as they were big enough to handle their personal business (#1 & #2) usually about 3. They were hunting on their own, say like manning a deer stand or a dove stool, alone, by the age of 8 and all had their own guns by 10 or 12. I have so many fond memories of those times to take to the grave with me, just wish they had not passed so quickly.
One of the sheriffs in our state once said he had never arrested a youngster with a hunting license in his possesion.
LET UM HUNT!

Honestly, the only age limit there should be is for hunting alone. If the adult is right there by the kid, I see no problem.

I remember going hunting with my dad when I was under 12 (the huting age here), the two of us only carrying one gun, and me shooting when we seen somethign. Nothing bad is going to come of it, the kid is under the adult's control.

Now, if you let 8 year olds hunt on their own, there is more of an issue.

"Under the bill, children as young as 8 would be allowed to hunt as long as someone is within arm's reach of them. Only one weapon would be allowed between the child and the guardian."

so whats the problem?

I went "hunting" before I was eight. Although I do not hunt today, when I was younger I did. I started out by simply tagging along, then moved up into the point where I was the one doing the hunting, and my dad was just there to supervise. Heck, by the time I was eight, I was probably getting out of it because we no longer had accesable land. Let them hunt.

I'm with Eghad,

so whats the problem?

But, we all know what this is, if a child is allowed to learn about firearms at a young age, it will be harder or near impossible to turn them into an anti-gun person (I was going to say idiot but that's not so nice so I used person).

Yeah here in Arkansas you must pass a hunter eds class if you were born after this law was instated. If you were born before it then you don't have to take it. So basically you can hunt at any age. I passed mine with a c...
