Biggest handgun in an ankle holster?

After seeing some of the ankle holster offerings out there (including one for a full-sized 1911! :o ), I was wondering about this board's experience....what is the biggest handgun you've ever carried (or attempted to carry) in an ankle holster?....

...by "biggest", it can be designated by handgun size, caliber, or capacity.......

Thanks in advance.... ;D

The biggest I've used have been a SIG P230 and a J frame Smith, usually an Airweight.

I normally wear full cut pants, and have to wonder how people carry things like Glocks and some of the others shown in the ads. They must have drug out their old bell bottoms for their hippie days.

Weight is also an issue. I suppose if most of your day is sitting, it might not be to bad, but if youre on your feet the whole time, youre probably going to have a different thought on the matter.

Finding the right holster goes a long way for comfort too. I've tried a bunch, and so far, and the rig made by Desantis, is the only one I can say is comfortable, for all day (18 hours or so) wear.

At one time I carried a Colt Detective .38 special in an ankle holster and then came along a NAA .32 Guardian.

One day I woke up and said to myself that the ankle holster carry was uncomfortable and only practical while I was driving or someplace where I was sitting for extended periods of times, which I hardly ever do. I can't remember the last time I ankle carried but still keep both ankle holsters in my box of useless holsters.

Well, it's not exactly in holster . . . and it's not me wearing it ;)

It is, however, my favorite :D

My little brother carries a Colt Officer's Model daily. I do think his right leg is a little bigger than his left... I couldn't do it. I tried and the ankle holster is not for me. i walk funny and am getting too fat to reach it without looking silly anyway.

J frame Tried my Detonics Crockett must have has the strongest leg in world If he carried the Detonics of his in a ankle holster in Miami Vice

I rarely ankle carry, and then only with a small auto.

Used to carry the 1910 Browning but these days it is the Kahr P380.

The pistol must be small, thin and pretty light or I can't stand it. J frames are light but too thick and "large" for me.

I've never met anyone that led anything approaching an active lifestyle and ankle carried for any length of time. They all decided that it got in the way, even for very small guns.

Alot of guys try it and say they do it, but never seem to be wearing it.

This past Winter I carried a Walther PPK a good bit in an ankle holster

I tried my Sig 230 but it was just too much for me.... So, anything over that would be like a brick strapped to you leg, I would think.

I would look at pocket pistols myself... sub compact at least.

I've carried an XD9SC there and quickly changed to a different manner of carry. It dug into the top of my ankle, was hot, and I couldn't run with it very well.

While I have never had an ankle holster, back in the 70's many of us carried a small gun(auto or revolver) just dropped into the top of our boots. It wasn't very practical but I carried a Walther PPKS that way for a couple of years before I got tired of having it bounce out and onto the ground.VERY EMBARASSING!! I think an ankle holster would be better than what we did,but it is not for me.J frame in the pocket as BUG works just fine for me.

I tried to carry a .22lr pocket-pistol, but decided early on that my boot-top was for my boot-knife and my firearm belonged on my belt. I never found one that I thought stayed where it should without really being uncomfortable as hell.

Then again, maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough. I was just never bit hard by that particular bug.

I regularly carry my Rossi 462 ( 6-shot .357 snubbie) in an Uncle Mike's Sidekick (size 0). This is the one with the calf strap. I can pretty much wear it all day without any discomfort, but I'm a fairly big guy (6'/260#) The ankle rig is not my prefered method of carry, but there are times when it is the only way to carry, especially when I'm carrying it as a back-up to my XD40 Service. As an extra tip, when I'm carrying n my ankle rig, I always wear my sock OVER the holster. This helps to cover it when sitting and your pant leg tends to ride up.

I've never found an ankle holster that worked with any type of high boot..

I can wear one with my low cut lace up boots... but can say for sure it is not the preferred method of carry for a primary weapon.... you got to pull up your pants leg and reach down and retrieve.... thus, it is more of a back up thing.... and this is why ankle carry is usually done with 380's
