Big Rifle Project

One day I came across this website http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/46722-50bmg-is-for-*******/page-3?
About someone making a 30mm rifle, and I wanted one for myself so i have been thinking about different calibers 20mm,25mm,30mm,35mm

I am leaning toward the 35 because it is bigger than his, I would like to compare these with there case capacities but I can't seem to find them anywhere on the internet so if anybody knows any places where I can find this or knows off hand I will thank you in advance

First off, welcome to TFL.

Building a 35mm rifle will require a tax stamp (larger than 50 caliber), a special action, a special barrel, and a source for ammo (again, difficulties because of the bore size). Anzio makes actions for the 20mm, but I don;t know where you would find an action for the 35mm. Finding someone who can help you with the action and barrel will likely lead you to someone who can do the work and help you with the NFA tax stamp. Good luck with your project.

That would be fun to but I don't think that would have the range I'm looking for:)

Thanks for the link Scorch

I was thinking about necking it down to 20mm or something like that to see what the groups would be like at a mile or two with solid lathe turned high BC (possibly tungsten) bullets :D:D

I have thought about getting a 950 but I think I can make my 35mm for the same price if not cheaper. Also I need to find a way to control the recoil on this thing and making it 100 pounds is not the answer one of the things I have found is this muzzle brake. http://www.eabco.com/store/custom-gunsmithing/jp-howitzer-brake-stainless-installed/
if anyone has any other ideas they would be appreciated.

Your rifle would have to be special built. Pretty much from the ground up. Reamers would have to be special made along with the dies. Building the muzzle brake for it would be the easy part. My guess is that it would cost you between 20 and 30k. Remember, the reciever would have to be built, the barrel would have to be built. Magazine if desired for more than single shot, the bolt, and of course the stock. Unless you are well healed and have a lot of time to wait while it is built, It would probably be better to forget the project.

one of the things I have found is this muzzle brake.

A JP rifle brake? On a 35mm?

Hmmm.... new poster....

I smell a troll....

But, just in case you're really not just seeing whose chain you can yank...

Just give Ronnie Barrett a check for $50,000 for a down payment and tell him to call you when he needs more $$.

I am not a troll and I realize that the JP brake would need to be special made for the 35mm.
Also is there anywhere online that I can find the case capacity for the 35mm?

You could find a 35mm cartridge and figure it out yourself... all you need is an empty case, a scale, and water.

I think that would give you an idea of how hard it will be for you to find more of them.

Unless you have yourself a nearly unlimited bank account, aka more money than you know what to do with, spend it on something more sensible.
