Big brother is out in force confiscating Illinois cars that carry fireworks

That is right even on the 4th of July. The day of our independence. Illinois wants to remind its citizens that we aren't as free as we think we are. If you live in Illinois fireworks are illegal. If you drive to Indiana or Wisconsin you run the chance of losing your car. Revenue vehicles, state police, and Indiana police are watching firework stores hopeing to catch Illinois residents driving back into Illinois with the fireworks they purchased. If you are caught, they confiscate the fireworks and your vehicle. It will cost you a couple of hundred dollars to get it back. This is the price we pay when the few control the many. If safety was the reason for all this, why not require the use of long nose lighters? There is no way you can lose a finger or a hand with that item. This stupid law makes millions of Illinois residents criminals, on the day we are suppose to be celebrating our freedom. Don't you wish they used this much effort into catching real criminals, but I guess there isn't much money in that.
 
Have at it! Enforce those unreasonable laws with VIGOR!! The more ordinary citizens you piss-off, the sooner the laws will be changed!

Reminds me of the time a guy saw an add in a magazine (or is that clip) ;) for fireworks. The order went from VA out of state. When the goods were delivered a fellow with a badge delivered them. Very expensive 4th with no fireworks.
 
Rumor has it that there were doing the same thing here in Gawga for the Fourth. The News reporter said it was because of the drought we have been in recently. I'm not sure if the penalties were as steep as Illinois.
 
I am so glad I left that state. If I was still there, I would park right where the LEO's could see my car and let them stop me on my way back. After they did an illegal search and found only legal sparklers, I would place an expensive lawsuit on the department for an illegal search. Don't let that communist state run your life. Fight back.
 
Molly Browns opened up a fireworks store on the Illinois side down near St. Louis. They said the Illinois law had loop holes a mile wide in it and they were going to drive right though and the state police be damned (my reiteration of their statement).
What ever happened to this issue? Can Illinois residents just go over to the East Side (form our perspective) and buy their fireworks inside Illinois now?
 
Confiscate the car? That's ridicously out of proportion to the "crime" of shooting off fireworks. Give me a break.
 
That's insane. You're right about how they should use this much effort towards criminals. Funny thing is, no matter how illegal these fireworks are, they are EVERYWHERE. In Chicago, so many Chicago Police Officers are the ones blowing them all off. Everywhere you look on the Fourth is nothing but fireworks. Same goes for handguns in Chicago, all the gang bangers and others have them. I think people here only obey the law when they feel like it. They should allow fireworks here but only allow it in an open space (for the larger ones). It's such a stupid law.
